Disrupting the VPN Market: D-Network vs. Web2 and Web3
Last updated
D-Network distinguishes itself by bridging the gap between traditional Web2 corporate VPN providers and the various free variants of VPN providers, which we simplify by categorizing as current Web3.
By introducing our ecosystem, we have created the world's first stakeholder revenue sharing VPN provider, offering a high-quality alternative to both the existing corporate and free market segments.
To understand how we have created a new third market segment to disrupt the industry, let's explore the key differences between D-Network, Web2, and Web3 VPN providers in one simple visual overview:
D-Network vs. Web2 and Web3 market segments
The opinions presented in this overview are simplified and reflect D-Network's perspective when comparing ourselves to other VPN providers.
It is important to note that not all current free VPN providers are technically Web3. However, because many of the non web-3 providers have a low life cycle and are often scams, we will classify all free VPN providers as one Web3 category for simplicity, to create a clearer and more understandable overview:
Understanding the differences, Web2:
Web2 includes all corporate providers, such as NordVPN and ExpressVPN, which are large in size and offer high speed and extensive coverage via their networks, partially justifying their high fees.
Corporate VPN providers are best suited to the needs of mid to large-sized companies and their employees, and currently still serve a fairly large number of quality-oriented end-user consumers as well.
Web2 VPN providers, by default, have a centralized organization and a data center network approach. While this generally ensures a high quality of service, it always compromises user anonymity. Of course, it is unclear whether current Web3 providers will eventually transition to a user-rewarding model; many remain committed to their current models, resulting in slow scaling and low user retention.
Understanding the differences, Web3:
Despite being a Web3-oriented solution, D-Network clearly distinguishes itself from all other market solutions for three primary reasons:
D-Network is able to convert every Web3 'maybe' into a definite and clear 'yes.'
D-Network goes above and beyond market standards in terms of quality, anonymity, and security.
D-Network is the only provider sharing its revenue among all stakeholders.
While we applaud the ethical efforts of some of our Web3 provider peers, we anticipate that our example will lead to the adoption of our internet service model, similar to search engines and social media. Of course, it is unclear whether current Web3 providers will eventually transition to a user-rewarding model; many remain committed to their current models, resulting in slow scaling and low user retention.
